26.02.2019. The 27th anniversary of the genocide committed in Khojaly.
On the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian military units, with the help of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former USSR, occupied the city of Khojaly and committed genocide against the civilian population of Azerbaijanis living there.
2500 inhabitants of the closed city moved to Agdam to get rid of them. However, in an ambush the Armenians shot down civilians. As a result of the Khojaly genocide, 63 children were killed, 106 women, 70 elderly people, 613 Khojaly residents were killed, 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one of their parents. 487 people were wounded from the bullets of the enemy, including 76 children. 1275 people were captured. The fate of 150 people, including 68 women and 26 children, remains unclear.
The anniversary of the Khojaly genocide is celebrated annually in many countries in Azerbaijan and around the world. At these events, photo stands and documentaries showing the dedication of the Armenians in Khojaly, and books reflecting the facts of the genocide are shown.
